CDM Smith Continuing Program Management of Clean Water 2020 

COLUMBIA, S.C.— The City of Columbia, South Carolina reselected CDM Smith to continue program management of the Clean Water 2020 (CW2020) Program. With the contract, CDM Smith will serve the client until at least 2030 to carry out the largest, most complex utility initiative in the state of South Carolina.  

To support our program management, our Program Services Group and Water Services Group will continue to work with the city to upgrade infra­struc­ture and execute long-term utilities planning. The team will continue to use sanitary sewer overflow (SSO) modeling, leveraging data to drive proactive solutions and establish a more efficient utility for the residents of Columbia. By using the data and long-term planning to our advantage, we will be on the front-end of potential wastewater issues that could arise. The initiative will reduce and prevent sanitary sewer overflows, ensure compliance with U.S. Envi­ron­men­tal Protection Agency (EPA) Consent Decree deadlines, improve water quality for the environment and community and prepare Columbia to meet its capacity needs by upgrading the city’s ability to support and encourage residential growth. 

As the incumbent program manager for the last 11 years, CDM Smith has already made significant contri­bu­tions, including executing the client’s capital improvement plan projects and imple­ment­ing upgraded operations and maintenance (O&M) systems to institute asset management with clear standards, practices and policies to prevent sanitary sewer overflows. Our team also success­fully met every single EPA compliance deadline on schedule during the entire CW2020 Program’s estab­lish­ment, only reinforcing the client’s trust in CDM Smith.
