SuedOstLink Milestone: First cables laid
From 2027, the line will transport wind power from northern and eastern Germany to the south - and solar power from Bavaria to the north. As the leading partner of the BM SOL-Süd consortium, CDM Smith is working together with Bernard Gruppe ZT, ZETCON Ingenieure and INP Deutschland on the Bavarian sections C1, C2, D1, D2, D3a and D3b. The consortium has been responsible for site management, construction supervision and engineering services during construction over a total length of 270 kilometres since 2023.
The first cable drums arrived from the Prysmian Group in mid-October and the cable pull has been running at full speed ever since. In addition to the construction of the cable ducts in traditional civil engineering, ARGE BM SOL-Süd is also supporting the cable installation, especially in the areas of health safety environment, local construction supervision, soil science construction monitoring and resident management. The underground cables will be laid around one and a half metres deep in a protective strip up to 40 metres wide. Once the work has been completed, the land will be returned to its original use, such as agriculture.
A special feature of this project is that almost all of the land will be used for agriculture again after construction. Our employees at CDM Smith are, therefore, committed to soil protection on a daily basis. Without healthy soil, no agriculture!
