CDM Smith is proud to have designed and accompanied this exciting project between 05/2017 - 09/2019. Among the invited guests are Cora van Nieuwenhuizen (Minister for Infrastructure and Water Management), Hein Pieper (Chairman of the Water Board Rijn & Ijssel), Peter Drenth (Member of the Province of Gelderland) and Loes van der Meijs-van der Laar (Mayor of Doesburg).
In the run-up to the opening, the professional audience will attend an expert colloquium. Our colleague Marq Redeker will also be present on this day to give an insight into the design process. The highlight of his presentation will be the use of Virtual Reality glasses, with which the participants can take a virtual tour of the fishway.
The general public can visit the fish ladder on 28 September at Barend Ubbinkweg 13 in Doesburg. There will be a colourful accompanying programme for the entire family.
Project background: Near the Dutch-German border, a 5 m high weir impounds the so-called Oude IJssel at its mouth to the IJssel River to enable navigation. The Waterschap Rijn en Ijssel built a fish ladder to restorepassage for fish and ground-dwelling organisms . From now on, this will enable fish to migrate from the IJssel River into the 1,200 km² cross-border Issel River catchment.
