Two New VDI Experts for Asbestos at CDM Smith

The course, which started in January, comprised numerous intensive course days and concluded on 28 March with the official examination at the VDI in Düsseldorf. Both Jana and Stina have been working in the field of building pollutants for years and are now also contributing their in-depth expertise to our projects as certified experts.

With this qualification, we are not only strengthening the expertise within our building pollutants team in the Rhine-Main region, but also our market position nationwide. The requirements for experts in asbestos assessment are growing: the VDI qualification is already taken into account in LAGA M23 as well as in several VDI guidelines of the 6202 series and is likely to be increasingly required in future tenders.

We are particularly pleased that our Crailsheim site, where one of the two experts works, is also accredited for building pollutant sampling. Even though Jana is based in Crailsheim and Stina in Bickenbach, they support our projects throughout Germany. This means that our customers and project teams have strong professional backing when the deployment of a qualified person as defined by LAGA M23 is required - for example, to confirm the absence of asbestos or that remediation has been carried out.

Looking to the future, we are keeping a close eye on how the need for additional experts is developing in the federal states. An expansion of the team is certainly conceivable. In the first half of 2025, we are also planning a new internal format to more effectively share knowledge and experience about building pollutants, their investigation, planning and remediation.
