Sven Kessler
Listen. Think. Deliver. Our geotechnical expert Sven Kessler embraces this motto with total conviction. As an internationally acting Project Director he knows to pay attention to the client’s needs and provide them with customized solutions for any geotechnical challenge. Within his area of expertise of special heavy construction, Sven supports his clients along the whole process of planning of object and structural frameworks including construction supervision. One core area of his expertise is the method of artificial ground freezing – with Sven also sharing his know-how as assistant lecturer at the Ruhr-University at Bochum, Germany. Additionally, Sven is frequently consulted regarding any construction ground and foundation issues, and has been acting as authorised expert in matters of dispute.
Sven Kessler knew from an early age that he wanted to become a civil engineer to build tunnels. That childhood ambition is now becoming a reality: he is currently involved in the construction of several road tunnels under the Suez Canal in Egypt. Another formative experience was his work on the excavation pits for a new government building in Berlin – a project he oversaw from initial conceptual design and structural calculations through to on-site supervision. He also looks back proudly on highlights such as the Palm Islands in Dubai, the refurbishment of the Cologne theatres and the construction of the Textile Academy in Mönchengladbach.
Challenging technical tasks and bespoke, non-standard solutions – that is what drives this experienced engineer at CDM Smith. He values the exciting projects as much as the supportive, collegial work environment that enables him to balance his professional and family life. This broad experience continues to shape his work to this day.
His advice for young engineers? Be patient: “Stick it out for seven tough years – only with time do you develop a real feel for clients’ needs and how to manage complex projects.”
