CDM Smith's 2021 Summer Intern Program Begins!

BOSTON—CDM Smith is pleased to welcome 103 college students into its summer internship program. The internship experience at CDM Smith is not just a job; it is a paid working experience where interns learn valuable skills, become important members of our diverse culture and make real contributions that help drive the firm’s mission to be the best, brightest and boldest in the industry. An internship at CDM Smith is the first step toward building an amazing career. In fact, countless leaders at the firm began their CDM Smith career as an intern or co-op student, including Chairman and CEO Tim Wall.
Interns across the U.S. join teams in various departments and disciplines, including technical services; construction (CDM Constructors, Inc.); federal services; and corporate departments like marketing, business technology, compliance, human resources and more. With remote onboarding being the new norm, most interns received laptops and equipment to get started from home. Some will report to project sites where detailed health and safety plans are in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
CDM Smith’s internship program is a great way to establish relationships with talented students. We partner with educational institutions to enhance the student experience and provide opportunities that will grow their skillsets. Interns and co-ops join us at various stages of their education, including students working toward their bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees. They are not only exposed to a variety of projects, but are also introduced to the exciting field of consulting and professional services. Designed to allow students to apply their textbook knowledge to real, practical situations, interns work alongside top industry professionals on ground-breaking projects, all while building a strong network of peers and colleagues.
This summer’s interns will learn about CDM Smith’s multidisciplinary work, with guidance from peers, mentors and managers, as well as access to learning development tools and trainings offered to all employees through CDM Smith University. Presentations from CDM Smith’s business leaders and technical delivery managers will introduce interns to firmwide programs and initiatives. Highlights will include a virtual tour of one of the firm’s largest projects currently underway—the Houston Northeast Water Purification Plant Expansion project—with Technical Services Unit President Randy Rogers, Emerging Technologies presented by Chief Information Officer David Neitz, as well as presentations about the CDM Smith Cares program, the Leadership Academy and more.
Interns will also enjoy fun activities like the annual T-shirt design contest and a group networking competition. During Coffee & Careers Chats and Resume Review Sessions, interns will work with CDM Smith recruiters to prepare for their professional careers and tailor their resumes for success.
