Karthik Kumarasamy, PhD, PE
Dr. Karthik Kumarasamy is a skilled environmental engineer with over a decade of consulting, academic, and regulatory experience in water, wastewater, and reuse. His expertise encompasses drinking water, wastewater, water reuse, regulatory compliance, permitting, and modeling.
Karthik has made a lasting impact on the industry, serving as the technical lead for Direct Potable Reuse (DPR) rulemaking and as the Chair of the Technical Advisory Group, a panel of 68 experts responsible for developing the DPR regulatory framework. He works closely with Arizona universities, is an adjunct faculty member at Arizona State University, and has authored over a dozen peer-reviewed publications. Additionally, he has developed statewide policies on drinking water, onsite wastewater, and advanced water treatment engineering reviews.
His innovative contributions have earned him prestigious accolades, including the Governor's Award for developing a machine learning model to predict arsenic non-compliance in public water systems, as well as 1st place for Best Abstract at the 2023 AZ Water Conference for his presentation, "Arizona’s DPR Source Water – A Quantity and Quality Perspective."
