Peter Tunnicliffe Wins DBIA Lifetime Achievement Award

BOSTON—The De­sign-Build In­sti­tute of Amer­ica (DBIA) an­nounced that CDM Smith’s In­ter­na­tional Unit Pres­i­dent Peter Tun­ni­cliffe, PE, BCEE, DBIA, CIRM has been named as the win­ner of DBIA’s 2016 Brunelleschi Life­time Achieve­ment Award, an honor given to lead­ers com­mit­ted to ad­vanc­ing the de­sign-build prac­tice. The of­ficial award will be presented on November 3rd at DBIA’s 2016 Design-Build Conference & Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Tun­ni­cliffe’s legacy as a de­sign-build leader has left a last­ing mark on CDM Smith and the en­gi­neer­ing and con­struc­tion in­dus­try. He was in­stru­men­tal in cre­at­ing CDM Smith’s con­struc­tion di­vi­sion in 1992, which ig­nited the firm’s adoption of design-build delivery. CDM Smith now brings in $400 mil­lion in con­struc­tion rev­enues an­nu­ally and is ranked as a top 10 de­sign-build firm in the water/wastewater industry and a top 400 general contractors by the En­gi­neer­ing News Record (ENR).

Tun­ni­cliffe has been a long­time ad­vo­cate for the de­sign-build in­dus­try, hav­ing helped es­tab­lish the Water De­sign-Build Coun­cil, an or­ga­ni­za­tion ded­i­cated to pro­mot­ing best prac­tices in al­ter­na­tive de­liv­ery ap­proaches for water and waste­water in­fra­struc­ture pro­jects.
