Brian McCarthy Leads CMAA Board and CDM Smith Delegation at CMAA2021
VIENNA, Va. – CDM Smith is pleased to announce that program management discipline leader and vice president Brian McCarthy, PE, CCM became the new chair of the board of directors of the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA). McCarthy assumed leadership of the board at CMAA2021, the association’s conference in Philadelphia.
McCarthy is a program management specialist with more than three decades in the industry. His experience managing financial, contractual, technical and environmental risks has helped him lead high-profile projects in the areas of water and wastewater infrastructure, water quality, feasibility and remediation. McCarthy's collaboration with clients, peers and colleagues has commanded the success of multi-billion-dollar capital improvement programs around the U.S. He has served on the CMAA Board of Directors since 2016 after serving in the leadership of the CMAA Foundation and the CMAA Professional Development Committee.
CMAA2021 was an eventful gathering for the CDM Smith team:
- The team shared the success of the Reboot Re-Entry Program through a talk by Julie Lucas and Sara Varvarigos, facilitated by Karen Counes. Partnering with the Society of Women Engineers and iRelaunch, CDM Smith offers a 16-week program each January through April for those who left their career for 2+ years and now seek to return.
- Thomas Dzagan, PE, CCM and Christopher Coyle, PE, CCM, members of the board of the Connecticut chapter of CMAA, celebrated the chapter's recognition as Chapter of the Year for the fifth consecutive year.
- CDM Smith senior vice president Firas Makarem, CFM is a member of the CMAA Foundation board, and also serves as treasurer.
"I am looking forward to working with our talented and diverse group of national and local leaders to continue the great work our members have come to expect from their leadership," McCarthy said via CMAA press release.
"One of our first initiatives will be to create a new strategic plan to guide our activities and programming for the coming years," said McCarthy. "The past 18 months have shown us that we never know what challenges and opportunities might come our way. We have continued to thrive as an Association despite these challenges and are in a strong position as we consider what might come next and how best to serve our members and the industry."
