Bill Nylic Named NYWEA President; First Young Professional Elected
NEW YORK CITY— CDM Smith is pleased to announce that Bill Nylic, PE, PMP, a CDM Smith project manager, has been elected president of the New York Water Environment Association (NYWEA), a member association of the international Water Environment Federation. Nylic will become the 92nd president of NYWEA, and the youngest person to hold the position in the organization’s history.
Nylic began his career with CDM Smith in 2007 following the completion of his undergrad degree in environmental engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, New York. Since then, he’s gone on to complete a master’s degree in 2013 and currently serves as a project engineer and project manager in the firm’s Long Island office. Nylic has experience with multi-discipline projects including regulatory agency funding compliance, potable water disinfection, chemical bulk storage design and compliance, odor control studies, public outreach, water and wastewater process design, storm water collection, inflow and infiltration reduction, outfall design, UV disinfection, pilot plant design and operation and digester gas treatment.
“I’m grateful to CDM Smith for offering me the flexibility to serve the water community in this role as the youngest person to hold this position in the organization’s history,” says Nylic. “It is inspiring to work for a firm that is not only providing a legendary client experience deeply rooted in technical excellence, but one that is also community-minded and committed to improving quality of life through local efforts.”
Nylic first became involved with NYWEA through the student chapter at RPI, eventually moving to the local Long Island and Lower Hudson Chapters, and ultimately the statewide association. Over his 15 years of involvement, he has served as Student Chapter President, Young Professionals Committee member, editor of the Long Island Chapter newsletter, Young Professional Representative on NYWEA’s Board of Directors, and recipient of the NYWEA Young Professionals Award in 2018.
“I’m excited to continue my dedication to community service in this new role and drive the organization’s future direction. I’ve always enjoyed volunteering and I find that NYWEA is an excellent blend of service, technical experts, education, and relationships formed with people who care about water quality throughout the organization,” he says.
The New York Water Environment Association, Inc. (NYWEA) was founded in 1929 as a non-profit, educational organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing our precious water resources. NYWEA serves the best interest of the public by promoting sustainable, clean water quality management through science, education and training. Today the Association has over 2,500 members representing diverse backgrounds and specialties, dedicated to expanding their knowledge and capabilities and cultivating a forum that enables them to play a vital role in shaping an environmentally sound future.
