Tommy Evans
Tommy Evans is a geotechnical engineer with 15 years of experience specializing in transportation, dam safety, and design. He has worked closely with the North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia Departments of Transportation, focusing on preparing engineering reports, developing field exploration plans, and client coordination. Tommy also plays a key role in dam safety projects in collaboration with the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SC DHEC).
“CDM Smith is the full package,” Tommy says. “We get to work on a range of projects, challenging and rewarding on their own merit. I work with many bright folks in different disciplines and have benefited immensely from those interactions. I personally enjoy being able to talk with my peers in other companies and boast of our internal capabilities.”
Tommy is skilled in using advanced software such as Lpile, Shaft, Apile, and FB-Multipier, and regularly works with tools like ArcGIS, AutoCAD, and OpenRoads. His technical expertise and leadership have been pivotal in complex projects, including the Navy Base Intermodal Facility in Charleston, SC, a multi-faceted project incorporating pavement design, deep foundations, and seismic considerations.
“I enjoy working with my peers in neighboring disciplines and applying their insight and knowledge to what we do in geotechnical services. Often, our discipline requires some additional sharing and insight of why we're needed on projects. I love sharing and communicating what we do; I enjoy walking with others through complicated design concepts, field exploration, and laboratory testing--what's not to love?”
