“My favorite part of my job is working with some of the brightest and most talented profes­sion­als to deliver products that meet our clients’ needs,” says Kit Persiani, discipline leader of roadway design.

Kit has over 30 years of experience as a project manager and senior roadway engineer. He carries expertise across various design disciplines including projects in roadway, highway, bridge, rail, and land development; inter­sec­tion and roundabout design; roadway design and safety improve­ments; storm drainage and utility coor­di­na­tion, and more. Addi­tion­ally, he has developed trans­porta­tion management plans, pavement marking plans, and signing plans. Kit has mentored staff, lead design tasks, and has been responsible for overseeing project quality control.

“Every day is another opportunity to learn something new from the challenges presented to us by the projects we work on,” he says. His proudest project he has worked on to date was the River Arts District Trans­porta­tion Improvement Project in Asheville, North Carolina where CDM Smith revamped 4 miles of Riverside Drive. Kit and the team implemented bike lanes, a bike track, sidewalks, parking, lighting, greenways, and two roundabouts. “These improve­ments transformed the area from a previous industrial/commercial corridor into a multi-modal roadway which is used by everyone,” he says of the project.
