The residents of Stalowa Wola, Poland, are enjoying a cleaner environment now that biomass has replaced coal to fuel their power plant. We designed and oversaw the environmental impact to retrofit this plant with more efficient, environmentally friendly technology to burn biomass, a pure and renewable fuel source.

Columbia Boulevard’s new cogeneration facilities—which provide 1.7 megawatts of power—center on two 850-kilowatt internal combustion engine generators, equipped with the latest in lean-burn technology. The Clean Water America Alliance has awarded PepsiCo Frito-Lay a 2012 U.S. Water Prize for its Casa Grande, Arizona, USA snack food manufacturing facility. Thanks to an innovative process water reuse system and alternative energy, the facility runs almost entirely on renewable energy and recycled water while producing nearly zero waste—something the company refers to as “Near Net Zero.”

U.S. Grant Program Aims to Protect Environment, Create Jobs
The U.S. Department of Energy is hoping that the $2.7 billion EECBG program will be enough to jump-start energy-efficiency projects across the U.S. Part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the program allocates nearly $3 billion in grants intended to help increase energy efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and create jobs.
