Urban Systems Model
Innovation in Sustainable Community Planning
Developed by specialists at the Neysadurai Centre, the urban systems model answers a set of high-level planning and design questions to help public-sector planners, infrastructure and utility managers, and private-sector developers understand how their choices will affect the entire urban system, the environment and economics.

The model simulates the performance of a city’s water, energy, transportation, solid waste, urban form and natural environment sectors; the relationship between these sectors; and the impacts related to land resources, greenhouse gas emissions and finances.
By answering a set of high-level planning and design questions, the model helps identify the effects of certain choices. It allows users to select key decision variables, track outputs, understand relationships, and analyze options from financial and social perspectives. By addressing concerns, it equips decision makers with the knowledge they need to identify multi-benefit, sustainable solutions for the benefit of their urban communities.
