Managing Risk from Coal Combustion Product Storage Facilities
Webinar: presented by John Reichling, Steve Whiteside and Bill Friers
With the 2008 failure of a surface impoundment in Kingston, Tennessee still fresh on our minds, it's no wonder why some owners are thinking twice about short- and long-term management approaches. Driven in part by this incident, U.S. EPA recently proposed rules for managing coal combustion residuals that could have severe economic implications for the electric utilities industry, leading to discussions on what are some of the technical challenges, obstacles and strategies of coal ash.

Energy Management Strategies
Webinar: presented by Matthew Goss and Thomas Warriner
With industry using more than one-third of all the energy used in the United States, there is an increasing need for energy conservation, management, and renewable energy sources. This webinar presents opportunities to learn more about the newest ISO standards being developed.

Integrating Sustainability into Remediation Projects
Webinar: presented by Maria Watt, PE; Chris Koerner, PE, BCEE; Teresa Raine
Sustainable remediation is a critical component of today’s remedial action options. Rising concerns over energy efficiency, climate change, and greenhouse gas emissions are prompting the environmental industry to consider sustainable practices in their decision-making processes. To maximize the net sustainable benefit, effectively manage environmental liabilities, and return sites to beneficial reuse, today’s industry must maintain a delicate balance between cost effectively meeting regulatory obligations and mitigating risk while considering environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic growth.

Applying the Water Footprinting Concept To Your Facility
Webinar: presented by Rick Molongoski, PE
As the availability and quality of fresh water continues to decline while demand increases, industry can no longer afford to underestimate the value of clean, reliable, and inexpensive water. Companies must now consider adequate availability, regulatory compliance obligations, and the reputational risk when developing a water management strategy. To effectively manage these risks and ultimately reduce water consumption, companies must first determine their water use and wastewater discharge. Measuring the company’s water footprint is one method that can be used.

Planning Tools for the Integration of Sustainability into Remediation Projects
Webinar: presented by Ms. Kristin M. Lemaster, PE, LEED AP and Mr. Michael E. Miller, Ph.D.
In all parts of our society, the traditional methods of planning, design, construction, and operation are incorporating new or enhanced techniques aimed at simultaneously improving environmental stewardship, economic development and social responsibility–the triple bottom line. Although remediation inherently addresses environmental stewardship, tools are available to improve existing remediation processes and realize the benefits of sustainability.

Effective Remediation of Petroleum Oxygenates and Related Compounds
Webinar: presented by Dr. Patrick Evans
The introduction of petroleum oxygenates, like MTBE, was beneficial for air quality, but created unanticipated consequences to groundwater and made remediation difficult. Ethanol has gained favor as a petroleum oxygenate, but its release into groundwater can complicate remediation for different reasons. Many in situ and ex situ technologies have been developed to address these recalcitrant compounds. Interestingly, the lessons learned from remediation of petroleum oxygenates can also be applied to the treatment of a chemically similar compound--the solvent stabilizer 1,4-dioxane.
